Food Guide – Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai was one of the best surprises of Thailand to me. I wasn’t expecting too much of a city with no beach but this place really stole my heart. So much actually, that my partner and I stayed there for 20 days. The longest we settled in our trip so far.

We stayed for that long so we could rest up and get some work done but specially because Chiang Mai offers plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans. After spending so much time there, I gathered my favourite places to eat veggie food on the budget, so here’s my Food Guide: Chiang Mai.

BREAKFAST:

Breakfast as some of you may know is my favourite meal of the day, and I got really spoiled there with plenty of options to choose from (and I even found Avo on Toast)!

The Hideout

This little café is perfect if you are missing a Western fix and want to have great quality food and coffee! Top notch food and great service. Just be aware that there might be a line (worth waiting for).

How to get there: Just off the main road on the top right corner of Old City: 95/10 Sithiwongse Road.

Lucky Two

This little restaurant was our go-to place as it was strategically placed in front of our guesthouse. We couldn’t be luckier (no pun intended) as it has a great variety of dishes for breakfast or even lunch/dinner. Also, delicious fresh juices and great coffee too!

How to get there: Inside the Old City, on the top right corner: 29 Moon Muang Rd. Lane 6

LUNCH:

Eating around Old City is great and cheap! We found several different places which served delicious and authentic food.

Bam boo Restaurant

Perfect for a break in the middle of the city, this place offer a great variety of authentic Thai food. Their Pad See Ew and Khao Soi are delicious and a must try if you ever go there!

How to get there: 34/1 Ratvithi Road, Chiang Mai

Cat House Restaurant

This was one favourite of ours. This restaurant is tucked away just half a block outside Old City and just close enough for a quick escape. Amazing veggie options and they also stock a great range of kombucha too!

How to get there: 8/5 Chaiyapoom, Soi 1

DINNER:

With so many options it was difficult to pick one. But we tried some really delicious places that made the night even better.

Maya Burger Queen

Missing a good burger? Look no further then Maya Burger Queen. Honestly one of the best burgers in South East Asia! Plus 4 veggie burgers to choose from, including a vegan option. Big, juicy and packed with flavour! Don’t miss out on it…you’ve been warned!

How to get there: 31 Ratchwithi Road | 31 Sriphum Subdistrict (same road as Bam boo Cafe, just a few meters away)

By Hand Pizza Cafe

If you are missing pizza however, this place is heaven! Delicious, Italian style pizza with a flavourful dough and plenty of vegetarian options plus 4 vegan pizzas to die for! So worth the extra few baht…

How to get there: 25 Moon Muang Soi 7 | On Corner Opposite of Wat Lamchang

Green Tiger Vegetarian House

Although the restaurant serves meat dishes, the priority is us! Plenty to choose from and most dishes can be made vegan too. Beautiful restaurant with a nice feel to it. Still affordable and under the 100 Baht per plate for a main.

How to get there: 1/4 Sripoom Road Soi 7 (tucked away in another alley, there are signs to lead you there)

BONUS

Get your juice fix at the best Juice Bar in Chiang Mai. Great variety of fresh made juices and smoothies and green shots! Most juices only cost 40Baht. Best deal in town.

How to get there: 19/3 Moon Muang Road, Soi 7
